Poets Laureate on Main

Every two years the Sullivan County Public Library Alliance appoints a Poet Laureate to promote the “Spirit of Sullivan County.” Join us on Main Street, Narrowsburg, as we kick off the Deep Water Literary Festival with a showcase of all five of Sullivan County’s poets laureate past and present, including the newly-appointed Kevin Scott Graham, as well as Eric Baylin, Mark Blackford, Sharon Kennedy-Nolle, and Lisa Titus. This is a rare opportunity to experience all five of Sullivan Country’s poet laureates reading works that draw on the festival’s theme. Refreshments will be served in local stores. Presented in association with Sullivan County Public Library Alliance.

Eric Baylin

Eric Baylin served as Sullivan County Poet Laureate for 2021-22. During his term as Poet Laureate, he gave poetry workshops for adults and young people and read his poems at numerous county events including the Bagel Festival in Monticello, the Jeffersonville Jamboree, and the Members’ Annual Reunion at Bethel Woods. He co-curated an exhibit at DVAA “For the Love of Wood” which included artists, craftspeople, boat builders, and others who worked with wood.

Lisa Titus

Lisa Titus was the 2020-2021 Poet Laureate of Sullivan County, and a 2020 Pushcart Prize nominee, Her poems have appeared in Barrow Street, The Carolina Quarterly, and the Packingtown Review, among others.

Kevin Scot Graham

Kevin began his focus and study with the guitar 31 years ago, and has since formed several well-received music groups. He won two Emmy awards for lighting direction as part of the studio technical team at MLB Network in 2013 and 2016. In 2024, he released two musical EPs, and began compiling poetry for his first book, with a chapbook scheduled for summer 2024.

Mark Blackford

Originally from Monticello, NY, Mark was the inaugural Poet Laureate of Sullivan County from 2019-2020. He has had poetry published in High Shelf Press, Cathexis Northwest Press, Black Fox Literary Review, and others he cannot remember. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and he once had the pleasure of reading poetry to open for Arlo Guthrie (unpaid). He is the former Chapbooks Editor for the Chestnut Literary Review/Press, where he guided several small collections of poetry into the world.

Sharon Kennedy-Nolle

Sharon Kennedy-Nolle received an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop as well as a doctoral degree in nineteenth-century American literature from the University of Iowa. She also holds MAs from both New York University and the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University.
